Announcing the 6th edition of the ever-evolving sonic worldbuilding courses, organised and taught by Madelyn Byrd aka Slowfoam. Over the span of 5 weeks, we will dive into the personal, political, and mythical dimensions of sound to conjure the sonics of hope, possibilia, and transformation. The course guides participants through critical theory, creative exercises, experimental production techniques, and feedback sessions to invigorate creativity and sculpt meaningful sonic worlds.
TOGETHER, WE WILL:
develop & stretch the possibilities of our practice through weekly exercises and feedback sessions
learn techniques for transforming sound in Ableton (e.g. resampling, time stretching, generative synthesis, automation, extreme EQing, granular synthesis + more)
apply (un)worlding as a creative tool for challenging prescribed sociopolitical constructs
explore how sound can support and inspire reconfingurations of the collective imagination
reflect on the scalability of a personal poetics of co-becoming and transformation
create speculative soundscapes and pieces of sonic fiction through the lens of deep-listening, eco-acoustics / field recording, anthropogenic noise pollution, musique concrete, language, spoken word, drone, and more
develop graphic scores as subjective transmission devices
create a collective musical lexicon (e.g. ‘sonic sympoiesis’, ‘bassensuality’, ‘echoic imprinting’) to bridge language and sound
exchange in a mutually supportive ecosystem that intertwines individual and collective expression
✷ PLEASE NOTE ✷ The course bridges critical theory and production techniques, some of which are in Ableton ~ Ableton 11 or 12 is recommended, but not required. All levels of experience & non-musical backgrounds are enthusiastically encouraged to join. Everyone is welcome ~ please be mindful that this is intended as supportive space for underrepresented and marginalised identities. Each point of view is valued as an essential perspective that will shape our time together :)
